Don't Sweat The Small Stuff
Ever since I can remember I’ve dreamt of going to space.
I want to experience weightlessness, be able to say I’ve left the only place humans have ever called home, and look down at what I can only imagine is a breathtaking view.
Most of all I want an unobstructed view of the stars.
Once in a while, I think about the vastness of the universe and the unimaginable scale of it all. We are so small in the grand scheme of things.
The first few times I thought about it, I felt a bit of an existential crisis. What’s the point of my life in a 13-billion year old universe? Will anything I do make a real difference on that scale?
The simple answer is no, probably not. But the more I thought about it, I came to realize that those were not the important questions to be asking. Instead I started asking myself:
Is this problem really that important? Why do I get upset over small things?
That self-reflection gave me a new perspective and a greater sense of calm.
Let’s be honest, I’m no monk. And by no means do small things not annoy me from time to time. But I do my best to work on it. I’ve gained a new appreciation for what’s important to me:
Family, Friends, and trying to have a positive impact on them and the other people in my life.
I pursue this goal on a daily basis. It gives me pleasure when I see these people achieving their goals. It’s even more special when there is a financial aspect to their goal and I can be a part of it by guiding them.
